A German court has banned Lenovo to use "smartbook" name

German court decision forbid to Chinese manufacturer Lenovo to use the word "smartbook" for the naming of its low-cost laptop computers sold in Germany.

The prosecution is initiated by Smartbook AG, not only owns the rights to this trademark, but also produces the corresponding line of portable computers. The brand is registered in many countries, including Russia, but not in the U.S., China, Japan and India.

In August last year with a similar lawsuit was faced American Qualcomm: court eventually banned vendor any use of the word "smartbook", including on the site. Around that time Smartbook AG asked the owners of the thematic web resource Netbooknews.de with request to remove all references to smartbooks.
