Microsoft won the first corporate anti-piracy trial in China

2010-04-27

Microsoft has won the first anti-piracy case against a major Chinese company.

Shanghai court ruled that the Dazhong Insurance must pay a U.S. corporation 2.2 million yuan ($ 320 thousand) for the use of illegal copies of Microsoft's software. On computers of insurance company was found 450 copies of the nine products of Microsoft, including Windows XP and Microsoft Office. Dazhong Insurance is going to appeal this decision.

It's not only the first lawsuit that Microsoft filed in China over counterfeit use of its software, but also the largest fine in its favor, ever received the corporation in China. The previous major success was the company's lawyers last year's conviction of four Chinese who were selling pirated version of Windows XP called Tomato Garden.

According to industry analysts IDC and the Alliance of vendors for commercial organizations, 80% of programs used in China in 2008 were pirated. This monstrously high figure, but it is decreases for past years.
