Looks like the next evolution of face recognition technology within a digital camera would be the smile sensor as found in Sony’s Cybershot DSC-T200. This digital camera comes with a generous 3.5» touchscreen LCD display and captures images in 8.1 megapixel glory, where close up shots are managed via the 5x zoom capability. The auto shutter system responds actively to smiling faces, so it would be safe to assume that no picture can be taken until everyone in the photo actually smiles. Users will be able to select different degrees of happy so their subjects won’t need to grin like a llama all day long. Pricing and availability are currently unknown.
